Practice Methodology

Dr. Oliver’s work is informed by trauma-informed and grief-informed perspectives grounded in interdisciplinary scholarship and professional practice. Her methodology integrates trauma theory, attachment theory, bereavement theory, reflective practice, and psychosocial adaptation research to examine the psychological, relational, and functional effects of serious injury, traumatic events, and loss on individuals and family systems.

This methodology recognizes that traumatic experiences and significant losses may affect emotional regulation, relationships, identity, functioning, and adaptation over time. Rather than viewing these experiences as isolated events, the approach considers broader interactions among individual responses, family systems, and contextual realities surrounding serious injury and loss. The areas below represent common matters involving serious injury, trauma, loss, and psychosocial impact. Consultation and analysis consider the psychological, relational, and functional effects of catastrophic events on individuals and family systems.

Core Framework Areas

Trauma Theory
Understanding how overwhelming experiences affect functioning and adaptation.

Attachment Theory
Examining responses to threat, safety, connection, and relational disruption.

Bereavement Theory
Considering the varied ways individuals and families respond to loss.

Reflective Practice & Professional Self-Awareness
Supporting disciplined interpretation through ongoing examination of assumptions and perspectives.

Psychosocial Adaptation Research
Examining adjustment, identity, and relational changes following significant disruption.
